Wedding Wednesday: The Lull & My Mom

Let it be known, that on April 15th, 2015 at 11:01 am, I am admitting that my mother, Jackie, is right about something.

She is right about the length of time of our engagement...it is too damn long!

6 months, 29 days.

Steven wanted to get married in the fall even before we were engaged. Our "big day" was something we discussed quite frequently, so after I was sporting my finger bling, selecting the date wasn't a big deal. The date we chose was largely in part to the UGA football schedule, but that is neither here nor there, Go DAWGS!

On Valentines Day we got a wild hair to change our wedding date to August! We just couldn't imagine being engaged another nine months!! In the following days I made some phone calls, but it didn't work for all of our vendors, and then I remembered MY DRESS. My dress is not supposed to arrive until the first week of August and I plan on having several layers of tulle removed and the girls are going to need some kind of support system, etc etc.

Long story short, we are still getting married on November 14th.

So right now, we are in a lull. All of the big decisions have been made, registries have been created, bridesmaids dresses ordered, cake, florist, catering and photog are locked down. It is funny how people interpret the time frame too. When we created our Home Depot registry, the associate was like "oh you have soooo much time" and on the other hand my wedding planner is telling me to buy our wedding bands already and make sure our passports aren't going to expire before December and I need to lock down the rehearsal dinner location!

There is a part of me that doesn't understand the urgency I feel to go on ahead a get hitched. I mean we are spending forever together!! The other part of me is so ready to have the role of "wife" that I almost wouldn't mind hitting up the Chaplin when we are home on St. Simons next weekend haha!

In the next six months, I am going to try and enjoy myself. My best friend is wise beyond her years, and she reminded me that never again will we be engaged, we will forever be married. I need to soak up the showers, and the free bridal giveaways and the planning because never again will I get to do this.

I am looking forward to lake weekends, summer nights hanging on the patio and everything that happens to us in the next 213 days. I mean, not like I am counting or anything ;)

  1. I can't wait to get to the lull and just enjoy! Right now the guest list is stressing us out & we can't move forward with the venue/catering until that is settled. I'm making appointments for consultations to happen with vendors in the next few weeks and my mom and I are going to do some dress shopping the second weekend in May. Not to mention we had all kinds of dates on the calendar that aren't wedding related but have us plenty busy! So I'm ready for the lull. Enjoy yours! :)

  2. Ugh... I remember when I realized that our engagement would be 11 months long, I wanted to cry!! I knew I would be eating, sleeping, breathing, living wedding planning & I semi dreaded it! But, your BFF is right... soak up this time! You won't ever be engaged or planning your wedding again. Enjoy it all!

  3. I had a longer engagement and went through a lull too. I had all my big stuff done and just kind of slowly did small stuff. I made almost all of my own decor so that's what I did during my lull from the big decisions. :) Everyone is correct- just enjoy it. You will love having everything done so that the week prior to your wedding you get to focus more attention on spending time with loved ones and less time on stressing. :)
