Called on My Heart - Lenten Season

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the 40 (give or take) days before Christ is resurrected on Easter Sunday and these 40 days are called Lent. During the time of Lent practicing Christians, mainly Catholics and Methodists, use this time to fast or cleanse themselves of a food/item/thought process/whatever it may be, to prepare them from the coming of Christ on Easter.

My family and I are Methodists and we have been truly practicing Lent for about 12 years now. In the past I have given up food items in the form of "fasting", mainly Diet Coke or cheese or some other bad for me weakness. However, Sunday afternoon it hit me like a ton of bricks what I needed to cleanse myself of in the upcoming 40 days... Facebook and Instagram.

I could not tell you the hours that I waste on these social media platforms. And for those hours wasted, what do I get in return....nothing.

Something else that has been really tugging at my lately is how involved I am with the two organizations that I volunteer my time to, and Steven does not have much going on outside of work. He has mentioned several times that he would like to get involved in something and unfortunately outside of driving to Athens, there is not much for young adults in our little town.

As I was ironing curtain panels - hello domestic diva - a few weeks ago, another ton of bricks hit me as to what I should do to get more involved with the community and DO something with my fiance to get him involved.....start a young professionals group here in our town! I know so many young people here and there is not much for us to do...and with that said I have stated brainstorming on how to make this happen!!!

During the next 40 days, my heart has been called to do the following

-Work on the young professionals idea
-Be more present at home with Steven
-Work on my relationship with God

My waistline is also telling my heart I need to go to the gym as well! Haha

What has your heart been called to do during this Lenten season? Will you support me in my following? Whether it be sharing words of wisdom, or a new devotional or perhaps a fun recipe or project that Steven and I can work together on.

I look forward to sharing with you how things go without FB and Insta as well. Til tomorrow! Xo

  1. This is great! I know lots of people in my life have felt called to do the same and give up that time spent on social media (which can ultimately be negative often times) and better spend it else where. Best of luck to you girl! And I must say, it makes me truly happy for you to see how things are moving right along in your life! You seem happy as a lark and that's so evident from the outside looking in! XOXO

  2. This is a great post. It would be SO hard to give up social media, but I definitely feel that it would be rewarding!! I hadn't given much thought to lent until today. OOOPS. But it is still something I am continuing to think about. Not too long ago I did a bible study by Kelly Minter called No Other Gods and I really liked her style of writing. In the midst of that bible study I actually made a really great close friend and then proceeded to getting baptized. :) I am thinking of starting the bible study on Ruth by the same author soon! Also as far as recipes go- I have recently started making zoodles (zuchini noodles) and find that they are EASY to make a healthy dinner with. :) Good luck in your next 40 days, it sounds awesome.
