Our Engagement

"Our Engagement", gosh!, it seems so surreal that I just typed that! I do not think that it has fully set in yet and I am pretty sure that the reason why my neck hurts is because I cannot stop staring at my hand haha!

Let me set the story up for you.....

The Mister is from St. Simons and after we had been dating for about three weeks, we went home to his mom's house to get his washer and dryer. While we were on that trip home, he told me that he loved me. Before we headed back that Sunday, we went to the beach. Well it came a hellacious shower (for about 8 minutes) and we sprinted back to the car! So much for some beach time :( but after about 15 more minutes of rain the sun came back out and we headed to the village and walked out onto the pier and we took these photos.

It had been raining for five straight days here in Georgia, so when we were packing on Christmas Eve and he mentioned that he was hoping to go to the beach on Friday and I was all for it! Sand, vitamin D, home at Christmas with my mister, what more could I ask for? This year was the first Christmas that I have ever spent away from my parents. It seems as if all of my other serious relationships never happened around Christmastime, so it was quite different this year. I teared up a little bit as we pulled out of my parents driveway Christmas morning, but after we had been on the road about 15 minutes I was fine. I am LUCKY to have really great in-laws!

We could not have asked for better weather on Friday morning. It was about 60 degrees and the sun was shining SO brightly! We poured a to-go cup of coffee and headed out toward North Shore. We parked at the same drive where we did for our first rained-out beach trip. We walked for about 20 minutes and we talked about getting a dog, we talked about moving back to SSI to raise our children (once we have them), we talked about how lucky we were and how beautiful the sun was. The Mister was kind of quiet, but I did not think anything of it because we had had a CRAZY week! I was just enjoying being there with him. At one point in time I remember him asking me if I thought that I could put up with his shenanigans for the rest of my life and I said only if he could put up with my sassiness for the rest of his. True story about sassiness, see yesterdays post, #5 about his Tahoe being parked the carport.....

Shortly after that, I drew a heart in the sand with our initials and the year. Then I remember turning around and seeing a family approaching us and a man with an all black outfit on with a long coat (weird attire as compared to everyone else) so we started walking back to where the car was. We stopped again after they had passed us and he put his arm around me and I hugged him tight. He asked me again if I wanted to put up with him or his shenanigans - it gets blurry at this stage - and in one fail swoop he moved from hugging me to down on one knee and he said "will you marry me?". He had the BIGGEST smile on his face while asking me that question. Before the "will you" part came out, I was already crying and I think I stood there for a few seconds crying before I made any kind of move. Then I knelt down and kissed him and I think? that I did mutter the words yes. Like I said, big ole blur at this point in time. After he put the ring on my finger, I kept kissing him and crying a little bit and then kissing some more. He then broke out his phone for a few selfies. I think I cheered or yelled or something along those lines and then he grabbed my hand and we headed back toward the car. A couple wished us congratulations on the way back - see neck problem - cause I was staring at my hand and a lot of people were smiling at us. I told him that I wanted to go out to the pier so that we could get a selfie with the lighthouse in the background, like the one we took that weekend when he told me that he loved me.

From North Shore to the village, I called my best friend Ashley first (we made a pact many moons ago and I was her first phone call when she got engaged), then my parents, then my Aunt Dawn and then my cousin Tara. We headed out to the pier for a picture or two then we headed to Palm Coast, the same restaurant that we had cocktails at the last time we were on SSI, for celebratory champs!

It was perfect.
