Wedding Wednesday: The Ring and Other Things

Hey everybody! How's your humpday??? Things over here are good, but I woke up with a bit of a cold and so I have self medicated (probably too much) and are telling my body that we don't have time for this! Haha. There are some big house projects that the Mister and I are SET on completing this weekend!

But back to the good stuff, the wedding :)

We have set a date! November 14th, 2015! Exactly 10 months from today.

Monday night I had a meeting for Junior League, it was such fun showing off my ring! Everyone was telling me how beautiful it was and that they loved the pear shape! I truly love my ring, it is perfect, however I love it because I picked it out!

Back in September the Mister and I went ring shopping. Yep, we'd only been together for a few months but we both knew that this was it. We had gone to one local jeweler in Athens to get his Tag fixed and we browsed while we were in there and that was the first time I tried on a pear shaped diamond. I fell in love instantly with that shape. A few weeks passed and one Saturday he asked me if I wanted to go to another jeweler that was downtown, Tena's (of course I said yes haha!) and it was on that rainy Saturday afternoon that we found my ring.
I didn't want to take it off! I loved everything about it...except for the setting. The setting was called "cathedral basket" which did not allow for a wedding band to fit flush with the ring. This was something that I knew that I did not want. Tena's has an in house jewelry designer and after a few consultations, we were all on the same page as to how I wanted the ring to look and set.

Let me stop the story right here, I was telling this story about my ring and I had someone say "well that isn't very romantic that you knew what it was going to look it!". That is one way to look at it, but the Mister is a smart cookie and he said that if he was going to sink all this money into a diamond on my hand, he wanted me to LOVE it. I mean I am the one wearing it every day. I see it the most. I had better love it!

Yes, I knew what the top of the ring was going to look like. I went to two design consultations and that was it. I did not know what the finished product would look like, I didn't want to. I told the Mister that I wanted to see it for the first time when he asked me!! So here is a close up of the finished product :)
We had diamonds mounted in the shank and the way that the head is setting, a wedding band (or two, cough cough Mister!) will sit flush and/or right underneath. I would have said yes if he had asked me with a ring out of a Cracker Jack box, but this sparkler works too!

So I want to know, did any of y'all go ring shopping? Or was it a total surprise? Did you drop hints about the shape you want? If I can give any advice to those who are thinking about getting engaged, GO SHOPPING! What I thought I wanted, it didn't look good on my hand. Another thing too, I have so many friends who have an engagement ring and a wedding band that don't match. They are very similar, but not matching. I knew that I wanted mine to match. But in the end, it is all a matter of personal preference.

Irregardless of the shopping beforehand and design elements, at the end of the day all that matters is that the Mister wanted to make me his wife and I obliged :) And that is all that matters when it comes to your engagement as well.

That is all for today! Til next week's wedding wednesday!

  1. It's beautiful!! Matt & I went shopping one random Sunday afternoon before going grocery shopping! Ha! That day I picked out 2 rings & I told him which one I "liked" & which one I "loved". From there it was his decision. We did this bc he too wanted to be sure that I liked what I would be getting & because neither of is had any clue what my ring size would be so, we had to try them on for that purpose too.
